Build a Tinder Clone App in Swift with AI
By the Vibecode teamUpdated 6 min read
Short answer
To make a dating app like Tinder you need a swipe deck that feels physical, a mutual-like check that creates matches, chat between matches, and profiles people want to fill in. The swipe feel decides whether people keep using it. Vibecode's template, Sparkr, has a gesture-driven deck with like, nope, super like and rewind, a match screen, chat, filters and a profile editor, as a native iPhone app written in Swift on sample profiles. Remix it and add real profiles and matching by chatting.

This is the prompt that built Sparkr in Vibecode. Paste it into a new iOS app project to build your own copy from scratch, or change the details first.
Prompt · 765 words
Build a polished, fully working native iOS app in SwiftUI named Sparkr: an original swipe-based dating app that recreates the core experience of Tinder, but with its own name, its own original logo and its own color palette. Do NOT use the Tinder name, logo, wordmark, app icon or any trademarked asset anywhere in the app. Design an original Sparkr logo mark, drawn with SwiftUI shapes (Path/Canvas) or made as a generated image asset, and use it in the header.
Screens and flows (light theme with your own warm gradient accent, not red-orange; bottom bar: Discover, Explore, Likes, Chats, Profile):
1. Discover: header with the Sparkr logo, a filters button (opens a sheet with distance and age range sliders and "Show me" selector) and a notifications bell. A deck of 12 profile cards (images.unsplash.com portrait photos, 3 photos per person, curl-checked): full-bleed rounded photo, photo segment bars at the top (tap the left or right side of the photo to switch photos), a bottom gradient with name and age ("Sofia, 26"), a "Recently active" green dot, "3 miles away", job or school, and 3 interest chips. An info button flips/expands into the full profile (bio, "Looking for" card, interests, basics, a music anthem, two prompts with answers, more photos), scrollable, with a down arrow to return.
2. Swiping: drag the top card in any direction; it rotates with the drag, and "LIKE" (right), "NOPE" (left) and "SUPER LIKE" (up) stamps fade in by direction; past a threshold it flies off with momentum, otherwise it springs back. The next card scales up from behind. Bottom button row: rewind (brings back the last card), nope, super like, like, boost; buttons fling the card with the same animation.
3. Matches: profiles #2, #4 and #7 in the deck like you back. Liking them triggers a full-screen "It's a Match!" overlay: both photos tilted and overlapping with a burst animation, "You and Sofia have liked each other", a "Say something nice..." input with a send button, and "Keep swiping". Sending opens the chat.
4. Chats: "New Matches" horizontal row (new matches appear here live), then the message list with last message, time and unread badges. A chat thread has the match's photo header, bubbles, a "You matched on Oct 8" marker, a GIF button, and a send box; sending a message makes the match reply after a short "typing..." indicator with a fixture reply.
5. Likes: "18 likes" grid of blurred cards with a Gold upsell banner; tapping one shows an upsell sheet. Explore: themed tiles ("Looking for Love", "Free Tonight", "Coffee Date", "Gamers") that open a smaller deck.
6. Profile: your avatar with a profile completion ring "62% complete", Edit profile (photos grid with + slots, bio, interests editor), settings rows, and a premium tiers carousel.
7. When the deck runs out show "You've seen everyone nearby" with a "Start over" button that resets the deck.
Rules for the whole app:
- Native SwiftUI for iOS 26, the deployment target the Vibecode iOS template already uses (do not change it). iPhone-first layout. SF Symbols are fine for UI icons (never for the Tinder logo or any brand mark).
- Everything runs on-device from realistic, deterministic fixture data in one Swift file (e.g. Fixtures.swift: real-sounding names, handles, numbers, timestamps, captions). No backend (leave the backend/ folder alone and make no network calls except loading images and media), no login, no permissions (no camera, photos, location, contacts, notifications, microphone). Do not persist state (no UserDefaults, @AppStorage, SwiftData or files): every launch starts from the same fixture state, so the demo is repeatable.
- Remote images: load images.unsplash.com photo URLs (with ?w=800&q=80 style params) with AsyncImage (or a small cached image view) and a tasteful placeholder. Verify every image and media URL with `curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}" <url>` before you use it and replace any that do not return 200. No broken or blank images anywhere.
- Polish: native-feeling spacing and typography, safe areas, smooth spring animations (.spring/.snappy, most under 350 ms), matchedGeometryEffect for hero and expand/collapse transitions where it helps, .sensoryFeedback haptics on key taps, pressed states, and loading/empty states. Simulated waits stay short (under 3 s). Every button visible on screen does something sensible; nothing is a dead end.
- Keep the compiler happy: small files (under ~300 lines each), big view bodies split into subviews, and no long chained expressions, so nothing hits "unable to type-check this expression in reasonable time".
- It must build with zero errors and run in the iOS simulator with no crash. Walk through every flow above and fix anything broken.Tinder clone features

How to build a Tinder clone with Vibecode
- 1
Remix the template
Open the Sparkr share page and press Remix. Vibecode copies the whole Swift project into your account, so you start from a working app instead of an empty screen. Remixing is free.
- 2
Make it yours by chatting
Tell the agent what to change in plain English, for example: “Rename the app to Rally, make it a tennis partner finder, and replace interests with skill level and favorite courts.” Each change rebuilds the app and runs it in Vibecode's cloud iOS simulator, right in your browser.
- 3
Publish to the App Store
Click Publish, choose Publish to App Store and sign in with your Apple ID. Vibecode builds, signs and uploads the app to Apple, with no Mac and no Xcode. You need an Apple Developer account ($99/year) and the Plus plan or higher.
The hard parts of a real Tinder clone
Screens are the quick part. These are what take the time once real people use it.
Swipes that feel physical
The card has to follow the finger every frame, rotate by how far it moved, and decide on release using both distance and speed. SwiftUI's drag gesture gives you both, including where a fling would land, so the deck can commit or spring back the moment the finger lifts.
Matches without race conditions
A match exists when two people like each other. Store each like, and when a new one arrives, check for the reverse like in the same transaction. Otherwise two people liking each other at the same second can both miss the match.
Who to show next
The deck query filters by distance, age, the gender each person wants to see, and everyone already swiped. Use a geospatial index, and exclude past swipes in the query instead of in the app, or the deck slows down as people swipe more.
Safety is the product
Dating apps need report, block and unmatch from the first day with real users, plus moderation of photos and messages (Apple's Guideline 1.2). Photo verification and clear community rules are what make people trust a new dating app.
Take it from template to real app
Each step is one message to the Vibecode agent. Send them one at a time and test in between.
- 1
Real profiles
Vibecode Cloud adds sign-up, a database and photo storage.
Prompt
Add Vibecode Cloud. Let people sign up, upload up to 6 photos, write a bio and pick interests, and show real profiles in the deck.
- 2
Matching and chat
Store likes and create a match only when both people like each other.
Prompt
Store likes and passes in the database. Create a match when two people like each other, and save chat messages between matches.
- 3
Distance
Ask for location once, then filter the deck by the chosen radius.
Prompt
Ask for location permission on first launch and only show profiles within my distance filter, sorted by most recently active.
- 4
Subscriptions and push
Dating subscriptions are digital, so they use in-app purchase through RevenueCat. Push notifications announce matches and messages.
Prompt
Add a RevenueCat Gold subscription that unlocks seeing who liked me and unlimited rewinds, and send push notifications for new matches and messages.
What a Tinder clone costs
Tinder clone scripts usually include the app, an admin panel and a backend with matching and chat that you host. The Vibecode template is a polished native Swift front end with sample profiles. You own it, change it by chatting, and add real users, matching and safety tools as you go.
| Option | Typical cost | What you get | Still on you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clone script | $299–$5,000 one-time license | Source code for the apps, usually with an admin panel | Servers, setup, rebranding, store accounts and future updates |
| Freelancer | Hourly or a fixed bid, set by scope | Custom code built to your spec | Writing the spec, reviewing the work, hosting and store submission |
| Development agency | Custom quote per project | Design, build, testing and launch handled for you | A budget and timeline fixed by contract; every change goes through the agency |
| VibecodeThis template | Free to remix; plans from $20 a month | A native Swift Tinder-style iPhone app you change by chatting, with App Store publishing (Plus and up) and source code download (Pro and Max) | A backend for real data (one prompt with Vibecode Cloud) and an Apple Developer account ($99/year) |

Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to make a Tinder clone?
Yes. Swipe-to-match is used by many dating apps. Don't use Tinder's name, its flame logo, its gradient or its marketing, or anything that suggests Match Group is involved. The template is called Sparkr, with its own logo and colors, and uses stock portrait photos for sample profiles.
Will Apple approve a Tinder clone?
Only if it is meaningfully different. Apple's Guideline 4.3(b) names dating apps as an established category and says it won't accept new ones unless they offer a different or improved experience. Pick a niche Tinder does not serve: a city, a faith, a hobby, an age group. You also need reporting, blocking and moderation (1.2). Vibecode publishes to the App Store on the Plus plan and up, with your Apple Developer account.
Does the Tinder clone work on Android?
No. Sparkr is a native iPhone app written in Swift, so it runs on iPhone only. For Android, start a Mobile app project in Vibecode, which builds React Native apps for iPhone and Android, and paste the prompt from this page.
Can I add a real backend to the Tinder clone?
Yes. Sparkr runs on sample data so it works the moment you remix it. When you need real users, Vibecode Cloud adds a database, sign-in and file storage with one prompt, enough for accounts, profile photos, likes, matches, chat messages and locations. It is on the Plus plan and up. You can also connect Supabase, Firebase or your own API.
How does matching work in the template?
A few of the sample profiles are set to like you back, so liking them shows the It's a Match screen and opens a chat. With a backend, a match is created when two real people like each other; ask the agent to store likes in Vibecode Cloud.
How do dating apps like Tinder make money?
Mostly subscriptions: tiers that unlock unlimited likes, rewinds, seeing who liked you, and boosts. On iOS these are digital purchases, so they go through in-app purchase; RevenueCat handles the paywall and subscription state.
Is the Sparkr template free?
Remixing it is free with a Vibecode account and gives you your own copy of the Swift project. Changes you ask the agent for use credits. Publishing to the App Store needs a paid plan (Plus and up) and an Apple Developer account ($99/year), and downloading the source code is on the Pro and Max plans. See the pricing page for current plans.
