TestFlight is Apple’s free service for testing beta versions of your iPhone app before it’s on the App Store. You upload a build to App Store Connect, add testers, and they install it with the TestFlight app. You can invite up to 100 internal testers (members of your App Store Connect team) and up to 10,000 external testers by email or a public link. The first build you share with external testers is checked by App Review first, and each build can be tested for up to 90 days. With Vibecode, every build it uploads to App Store Connect is ready for TestFlight, no Mac or Xcode needed.

TestFlight at a Glance

Testers install the free TestFlight app on their iPhone or iPad, then accept your invite. You don’t need their device IDs.

Step 1: Get a Build into App Store Connect

TestFlight uses the builds you upload to App Store Connect. To get one there with Vibecode:
  • iOS app (Swift) projects: ask the agent in chat to “upload this build to TestFlight.” Every build Vibecode uploads when you Publish → Publish to App Store also lands in App Store Connect. See Native iOS Apps.
  • Mobile app (React Native) projects: use Deploy → Submit to App Store. Expo Launch builds the app and uploads it to App Store Connect, where it’s available in TestFlight. See Publish a Mobile App.
Building yourself? Upload from Xcode (Product → Archive, then Distribute App) or with Expo’s eas submit --platform ios. After an upload, Apple processes the build. It shows up under the TestFlight tab of your app in App Store Connect when processing is done.
If the build shows Missing Compliance, click it and answer the export compliance question about encryption. Most apps that only use standard HTTPS qualify for an exemption, but check Apple’s guidance for your app.

Step 2: Add Internal Testers

  1. Open App Store Connect → Apps → your app → TestFlight
  2. Next to Internal Testing, click + to create a group
  3. Add testers from your App Store Connect users. Not on your team yet? Invite them under Users and Access first.
  4. Select the build to test. Internal testers can get new builds automatically.
Each tester gets an email invite. They open it on their iPhone, install TestFlight, and tap Accept and then Install.
  1. In the TestFlight tab, open Test Information and add a beta app description, a feedback email, and Beta App Review contact details. If your app needs a login, add a demo account.
  2. Next to External Testing, click + to create a group
  3. Add a build to the group. The first build is sent to App Review automatically; testing starts once it’s approved.
  4. Add testers by email, or turn on a public link and share it anywhere: your website, social media, or a newsletter. You can set criteria such as device type and iOS version, and limit how many people can join.
Later builds for the same app may not need a full review.

Step 4: Collect Feedback

Testers can take a screenshot inside your app, mark it up, and send it as feedback, or send feedback from the TestFlight app. Crash reports are collected automatically. You’ll find all of it under TestFlight → Feedback in App Store Connect. In Vibecode, paste feedback or a crash description into your project chat and ask the agent to fix it, then upload a new build. Testers get the update in TestFlight.

Step 5: Release to the App Store

When a build is ready, submit it for App Review from App Store Connect, or publish from Vibecode. The App Store review guidelines checklist helps you avoid common rejections. Testers who installed the beta can keep testing until the build expires.

TestFlight Rules to Know

  • 90-day limit: a build stops working for testers 90 days after upload. Upload a new build to keep testing.
  • Build numbers: every new build you upload for the same version needs a higher build number than the last one.
  • In-app purchases in TestFlight builds use Apple’s sandbox, so testers aren’t charged. If products don’t appear, check your agreements: see RevenueCat troubleshooting.
  • App Review still applies to external builds, so the same guidelines matter, especially 2.1 App Completeness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. TestFlight is included with the Apple Developer Program membership ($99/year), which you need to upload builds at all. Testers pay nothing.
Up to 100 internal testers from your App Store Connect team and up to 10,000 external testers.
90 days from upload. After that the build stops opening for testers, so upload a new one to continue.
Only for external testers. The first build you add to an external group goes to App Review, and later builds may not need a full review. Internal testing needs no review.
Yes. App Store Connect is a website, and Vibecode builds and uploads your app from its cloud. See How to Publish an iPhone App Without a Mac.
For your own iPhone, Vibecode’s Publish → Install is quicker: it builds, signs, and gives you a QR code to install, with no App Store Connect setup. Use TestFlight to share the app with other people.
